Bidding War

Tempted

She arrived at the the auctioneers late.

She could smell the alcohol on her breath.

She hoped no one else could.

She had to buy carpet for their new house.

She wished she hadn’t gone out drinking the night before.

Her head hurt.

The bright fluorescent lights inside the warehouse were blinding.

She felt nausea,

as she made her way through the crowd.

She wished she hadn’t gone out drinking the night before.

The bidding was underway.

She raised her hand to place her first bid.

The auctioneers voice thundered in her head confirming her bid.

“$600! Who will give me $700?”.

She wished she hadn’t gone out drinking the night before.

The bidding began to rise”$700!”.

“$700! Who will give me $800?”.

She felt unwell.

She wanted to leave.

She wished she hadn’t gone out drinking the night before.

Tempted, she raised her hand to bid again.

“$800!” echoed the Auctioneers voice, then there was silence.

“Excuse me lady, you’re betting against yourself”

Everyone began laughing.

She wished she hadn’t gone out drinking the night before.
